Historic monuments in Les Sables
Les Sables d'Olonne has many historic monuments and buildings that you can visit. So you can discover magnificent buildings while avoiding the rain.
We particularly recommend the Prieuré Saint Nicolas, an 11th century church overlooking the entrance to the port of Les Sables and providing a superb view of the embankment. At the same time, visit the Arundel Tower and the Château Saint-Clair, on the other side of the entrance to the port. The Arundel Tower is accessible all year round by visiting the Musée de la Mer, and at the top, offers an exceptional view of the bay of Les Sables d'Olonne.
On the other side of town, along the sea, you will find the Abbey of Saint Jean d'Orbestier, a 12th century religious monument by the sea.
Finally, visit Saint Peter’s Church, a 20th century church built in a very unusual neo-Byzantine style which is worth seeing!

What's more, if the weather permits, continue your "sea-shells" outing to Penotte island, a small district known for its works made from shells directly in the streets, on the walls of the buildings.
