And to discover the historic heritage of the Pays de la Loire region, spend some time at the Abbey of Saint-Jean d'Orbestier and the Church of Saint-Hilaire before heading off to Le Logis du Fenestreau via the path through the forest.

And to really get to know the Vendée, head for Les Sables d'Olonne and its 3 harbours with panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean. Put yourself in tourist mode and visit the picturesque districts of La Chaume, Le Passage, L'île Penotte and Le Remblai, lively places that reflect the region.

Start the day with a visit to Les Halles des Sables, where you can take a trip back to the 19th century and sample the local produce. Then don't miss the Walk of Fame in Les Sables d'Olonne, where you can walk in the footsteps of the great Vendée Globe winners since 1989 and take a nice souvenir photo!

After a gourmet break with some oysters, local shellfish and fresh fish caught on the day, head for the large Saint Nicolas jetty and its red lighthouse for a little digestive stroll.

Before snack time, when a Vendée gache awaits you impatiently, pay a visit to the Abbaye de Sainte Croix to delve into the history of the region and discover its artists.

Château d'Olonne is a must on your holiday programme at the 5-star Le Bel Air campsite, but the town of Les Sables d'Olonne is also a must!

They tell you everything!
